This I believe Essay: Getting angry can be a good thing
We just recently read a this i believe essay in preparation for our this i believe essay. This article was entitled Getting angry can be a good thing. This article was mainly about a Bolivian- American women who believes outrage can go a far way. She feels this way because when she was younger her friend said that when the americans have war with the Japanese her family was going to be sent to a internment camp. This made her mad because she felt as if her family was american. She knew that they werent fully american, but they werent complete immigrants. Her anger pushed her to work for the immigrants rights movement as an advocate.
I do agree with the author. Sometimes you have to be angry in order to be happy. You may be angry about something, and if you dont express it you will constantly be be angry. Its good to express ALL emotions. No matter the emotion its good to express it.

New Fashion Wrinkle : Gun Fashion
In a 182-year-old clothing company they have created new pants called "Chino Pants". One special asset about these comfy and flexible pants is that they can hide a gun and other weapons such as knifes or flashlights. This came about because more people are getting permits to have and carry a gun with them because laws are becoming harsher on carrying around a licensed gun. These pants are sold at the price of $65 and are particularly made for gun owners who carry their guns with them and other weapons. They have also made shirts and other pieces of attire to hide a weapon in and also able to pull it out quickly. People wearing this clothing believe that it’s based off of clothing made for policemen and for soldiers. Many sports and other retail stores are trying to get a hold of there own "protecting clothing" but are making the clothes look very normal. They do this so a possible attacker may be afraid or unsure to do anything because its possible they may be "strapped". But everyone isn't a fan for just the fashion; they are only concerned with there protection.
Well I do believe that carrying around licensed weapons is becoming more popular because people aren’t aware of who can do harm to them, now even more since they’ve made the pants and other stylish “weapon hiding attire”. I also do think Americans should carry guns for protection, but it also may lead to more deaths and injuries since everybody is armed.

Parkway Health Fair 2012
The school year is coming to an abrupt end, so that means SENIOR PROJECT TIME! Just recently the seniors of parkway west conducted a health fair. Ten seniors where involved in this. First they went to classrooms and talked to student about what their senior project is on. They also bring a mentor with them who is from an organization dealing with their topic. Most seniors talked about sex. That includes stds, teen pregnancy, and abortion. While others talked about animal cruelty, and healthy eating habits.
Condoms, lubricant, oranges, cups, lotion and hand sanitizer are only a few of the free things given out at the health fair. Freshman Ashira Mason stated "They promoted healthy eating and protected sex." My favorite part was playing the game with freshman Keniesha and Mr. Brian. It was testing your knowledge on fruits and veggies with facts on each fruit/veggie.
Im not sexually active put the seniors had given me helpful information on how to inform my friends on protective sex and stds. Overall the health fair was very successful.

Take a stand
Most do not only want the Justice for the young 17 year old Trayvon Martin to only be the arrest of his shooter, George Zimmerman. They believe justice for him is also giving young black children, focusing more on young men, to not be labeled as troubled or a threat to the community. They want young black men to be able to travel openly without worries of others being afraid of them. Parents of young black men want to teach them starting at birth all the way to adulthood about situations such as different backgrounds, integrity, honesty, justice, respect and the true meaning of community. Parents also believe that what ever there child turns out to be they will play an important part as well.
They believe we should take a stand because this not only happening in Florida. It’s happening everywhere. They believe it is based in different systems created in this world based for African American children. Some systems based of things like health, education, discipline, welfare and the Juvenile Justice systems.
Therefore, they believe that we stop this by doing things. Like reaching out to the community, helping schools, vote, and volunteer and most importantly teaching our children.
Well I do agree with the fact that there isn’t just one type of justice there for Trayvon. This situation made people realize how bad the labeling of a normal African American child was. It made me realize how important proving others wrong about how us African Americans may act or be.

Live jewelry or bling slavery?
http://travel.yahoo.com/ideas/live-jewelry-or-bling-slavery--.html
I recently read a very interesting article on yahoo.com. This article had me thinking, how far am i willing to go to set or be apart of a trend? Women in mexico have a very weird but fashionable trend going on as of now. Beetle jewelry is now very popular. Crazy right? It may not seem very appealing but trust me it is. Women decorate these bugs with chains and rhinestones. This unique fashion trend comes with alot of controversy. Animal activists say that this practice should be banned everywhere. These expensive broaches arent legal passed the mexican border.
Ewwwwwwwww, was my reaction to this article. How could someone wear a a bug as jewelry. Not only is it nasty, its wrong. You would not catch me wearing a beetle broach, even if they make it legal in the U.S. Freshman georgenna minor stated "It makes me feel as if i have bugs around my neck." While freshman Emaijah Johnson said "I would wear it as long as it isnt going to sting me.

Facebook is using you...
Facebook is now selling pieces of stock. The only thing that Facebook has to provide for the stocks are its users information. This well known website gets its money from different ads that appear from information on someone’s profile. Facebook makes $3.2 billion off of advertising and Google making 10 times that from emailing and searching. Many things from the Internet has prevented people to get custody and also has a big impact on situations dealing with the law. There are also companies that are used only to look up information about what people do online. Using other people’s information from online can give off stereotypes.
This article is interesting. I knew that jobs sometimes look at what you write on social networks, but i never knew that those social networks make money off of you. I am slightly concerned about what i post on twitter. I realize that the stuff i post can be held against me. That is why i am cautious about what i post. I have slipped a couple of times, but i wouldn't mind if a future employer seen stuff i tweeted.

Suspect shot in the head by police in Frankford
What goes around comes around. This is a quote that applies to a recent article i read. On March 22nd a robbery suspect was shot and put in critical condition. This occurred at 12:45 am at the 711 on Harbison ave. The suspect pulled a weapon out on a 7-11 employee and a patron. Once he heard that the police are on their way he started to run.
When asked about this article freshman Gerildine Green stated "Well, the only reason they would have to shoot him is if he raised a gun at them, but he didn't.".Mr Petro responded "It sounds like excessive force, i mean i dont know all the facts, but thats what it seems like."
I agree with Mr Petro. Shooting him in the head was unnecessary. The police could've easily shot him in the leg. Yes the robber was wrong but there are other ways to go about punishing him. I personally think it has something to with race as well. You always hear about black males getting shot by white cops for minor things, and the police officer never gets in trouble. But let a white guy get shot by a black cop , the black cop will with a bunch of things.

For Women Under 30, Most Births Occur Outside Marriage
Shocked? Not really. I recently read an article that confirmed exactly what i was thinking. Jason DeParle and Sabrina Tavernise created this controversial article. This article is basically stating that most women under 30 have children without being married. This percentage has been on the rise lately. This article explains why.
They believe that things such as birth control pills, condoms, an the sex revolution is responsible for this. They also believe this gave permission for don't young women and teens to have sex without being married. I agree with this. Back in the day most women waited until marriage to have sex. Now and days females start having sex at the age of 12 or 13 and marriage isn't even a thought.
They also say that people who attend college are more likely to have children after marriage. I personally want to have any children but if i did i would want to have them after i am stable and on my feet which would most likely after college.

Photoshopped or Not? A Tool to Tell
Now and days magazine editors use Photoshop for everything. They can turn a 200lb Asian women into a 95lb African american women. They can alter skin color, facial features and more. Most commonly you see weight alterations and pimple removals.
Dr. Farid and Eric Kee are trying to create a tool that shows just how much fashion pictures are photo shopped. This first crossed their minds when they wanted to research fashion magazines. Many believe that this is causing many eating disorders and body anxiety. They would like to have a before and after picture for all pictures.
I'm in love with this article. It shines light on something alot of people are afraid to talk about. I am actually good at photo shopping things, but every time i do photo shop something i have a before and after picture. I also agree that this can cause eating disorders and body anxiety. Teens have this ideal view on what they want to be like when 9 times out of 10 its not what it looks like.
In China, Human Costs Are Built Into an Ipad
I recently read an article that basically talked about the horrible working conditions in a china at an i-pad production company. They started the article with a brief summary of an explosion that recently happened. They explained that it was because of a chemical spill. Workers slept in small dorms. They also worked ridiculous hours for less than minimal wage. Many people feel as if apple doesn't care about their workers.
Complaints have been sent but there have been no changes. I feel as if apple needs to lose customers in order to treat their workers better. I want to stop using apple completely, but that is very difficult to do. Apple is all around me. I personally do not agree with apple's actions. It may sound crazy but apple needs to be shut down. If it was any other company they wouldve been shut down.

"Im a criminal"
I just recently read an article entitled "I'm a criminal, and so are you." This article was basically talking about people discriminating criminals. The main point of this article is to create some awareness to something that we all do. Did you know that everyone commits a crime, weather it's sooner or later in life.
The difference between the criminals in jail and us criminals is that we haven't been caught yet. If we where associated as criminals most of us would not be in the predicament that we are in.
This article made me think twice about the things i do or did. Everyone is a criminal whether you associate yourself as one or not. I strongly agree with her. She's shining light on information that is very valuable.

Cracking teenagers online codes
I recently read an article about an out-going 34 year old woman named Danah Boyd. She is a researcher at Microsoft Research in Cambridge Massachusetts. She is the first antroantopoligist to focus on the teen behaviors and benefits from social networking sites like Facebook and twitter.
Most adults fear teen internet usage. They feel as if teens share entirely too much information over the internet. Danah Boyd strongly disagrees. She feels that this generation has more computer safety. She also believes that teens put stuff on the internet because parents are constantly giving "web rules"
When Danah was 16, 13 of her friends died, and she was cared that she might be next. Due to an absent father, and divorced parents Danah was a troubled child in school. So she talked to online predators over the internet. I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't think talking to strangers who save her life. Well in this case it did. She was able to talk to people over the internet who knew what she was going through.
My mom has taught me about internet safety. Therefore i know how to portray certain emotions without giving too much information.

Family: Victim targeted for witnessing murder
I recently read an article that possibly stop alot of people from testifying. January 23 33-year-old Rosemary Rivera was brutally murdered execution style in her mini-mart. She recently testified for a murder she witnessed outside her store. Days before her death she cried to her sister explaining that she felt as if someone was going to kill her. Police feel that the man who murdered her is the same man who committed the murder she testified for.
This is crazy. The police want us to testify but they cant even protect us after we testify.People already feel as if testifying is snitching now they have another reason to keep valuable information that could help save lives to their selves.
I'm someone doesn't giving information, but reading this article makes me question that. I don't want to die because the police can't do their job. More people are losing their lives because of this. The police need to step up their security or else they wont have any witness to test

"It is better to be loved than feared."
"It is better to be loved than feared."
I believe that this quote is basically saying that people don't have to be scared of you for them to have respect for you. I couldn't agree with this quote more. In today's society alot of teens feel that they have to put fear in people just to get respect, but in all actuality they are making the person despise them more.
The first person that comes to mind when I read this quote is my grandmother. She is constantly telling my brother this. My brother wants everyone one to have respect for him and if they don't he tries to make that person scared of him.
I consider myself to be loved not feared. I believe this because people give me respect without me forcing them to. My mom says that I have a personality that makes people want to be around me and that my personality makes people want to give me respect. I personally think that it is the fact that i give people respect so they give me respect back.
This proverb can be used in my everyday life. I say that because there are people in my life who could benefit from this quote.
Robert "yummy" Sandifer
Many people wonder how an eleven year old boy nick named yummy got caught up into gang activity and later died . So in this short essay I will tell you how his death occurred. To start off Robert "Yummy" Sandifer parents were not in his life. His mother was a drug addict and a prostitute. And his father was in jail, leaving yummy with out love.
When yummy moved with his grandmother, his short life of crime began. If you don't know Yummy has done many crimes. From robbery to arson, and murder. After Yummy shot an Innocent bystander, it brung attention to police. Because the police were paying close attention to the black disciples, two of the members of this gang brutally shot and killed yummy.
I believe that if yummy had people to love him he would be alive. I say that because Yummy was a very bright child. So if he had some one to lead him in the right direction he would be alive and very successful today. This is why it is important for are young black men to have positive role models in their lives so they dont turn out like yummy!

Teaching kids how to break up nicely
Last month Boston public health commission conducted a study that required 200 teens from Boston. The main focus of this one day conference was promote "Healthy Breakups," The author of this was trying to inform and persuade the reader to use healthy relationships.
I admire the fact that adults are doing something to help teens instead of complaining about teens. They are promoting healthy dating tips that can help teens who aren't currently in a relationship. I'm not currently in a relationship and i was able to benefit from this article.
To be completely honest i thought this article was going to be a complete bore, but surprisingly it wasn't. As i started to read along the article became more interesting. This article is very relatable. I'm sure that everyone knows at least one person who has experienced a Facebook breakup.

ABORTION. LEGAL?????
Abortion is a very controversial subject. Most people feel like abortion is killing a living creature, while others feel that abortion should be left up to the women to decide.
Many people say that when you have an abortion you are not killing a living human. Life begins at fertilization, therefore the fetus is alive. Also biology is 100% clear that since the organism has human D.N.A. and is the product of two humans it has human life.
Abortion is wrong. Yes, I know that its legal but the same government who legalized it is now against it. Many people say that it gives women freedom, but what exactly are they free from? Think about it! They may be physically free from a child they don't want, but they will always have an emotional connection to the child.
There is no reason to resort to abortion. If you have an abortion you will have an emotional connection to the child. If you give your child up for adoption you will still have an emotional connection to your child. The only difference is that with an abortion you will constantly think about what could have been.
I AM COMPLETELY AGAINST ABORTION!!!!!!!!!!!
